The character and casting was announced on 14 January 2013. Courtney is an inmate at Crestview Correctional Centre, which Casey Braxton has to attend for his part in a failed robbery. Casey's efforts to try to keep to himself fail when Courtney notices him and they have a "run-in". Younes described Courtney as being a "stereotypical prison bully." When Casey is placed in the prison kitchens, Courtney asks him to keep an eye on some food delivery that contain drugs. When Casey stands up to Courtney and refuses, he is left "battered and bruised" by the encounter. Murray was then arrested by Police Sergent, Mike Emerson for assult of Spencer and soon, Spencer and Evelyn began to bond closer, which Sasha became jealous.

The two had a small chat and Evie told to Spencer that Maddy is pregnant with Josh's baby, which angers Spencer. The two spend the rest of evening at Evie's house and Spencer tries to cheer her up by giving her a whole bar of chocolate. Evie thanked him for sticking up for her and accompany her at the dance. Maddy tells Spencer to make a move on Evie, but he fails too, as she spends time with Maddy's boyfriend Josh Barrett. But Spencer found out that Josh is the one that Evie really likes. Evie denies it but Spencer doesn't believe her, and Evie confess.
Hours later, Alf and Chris came to his rescue and Spencer was left with embarrassment realizing is internet girlfriend is a man. Spencer attends to a music festival with Sasha and Roo tells him to keep an eye on Maddy, who was once drugged by Josh's brother, Andy at a beach party. Spencer, Irene, Chris and Sasha were held hostage at their house by Andy's dealer, Sean Green when he was trying to look for a doctor, after he got beatened up by Kyle Braxton. Spencer was held hostage by Sean at Irene's house with Chris, Irene and Sasha, when Sean tries to find a doctor and threatens them with a knife.

Sean tries to kidnap Sasha, but Chris lunge at him in defence, saving the others and Sean falls unconscious. Chris was shocked at what he has done, not knowning if he had killed Sean or not. Sid supports Dex when he was involved a serious car accident, leaving him disabled. Sid starts a relationship with Dex's psychiatrist, Lisa Flemming but later finds out from Dex that she's married.
Marilyn confronts Sid and he tells her that he is not in another relationship. During their date, Marilyn tells Sid that she believes she is going to die and Sid is supportive. In 2014, Spencer end things with Sasha and start to have feelings for Evie and Spencer's ex-girlfriend Maddy Osborne plays cupid and tries to put him and Evie together.
While on a date, Mullens rapes Rosie and she initially blames herself for what has happened. Sasha supports Rosie, as she reports Mullens to the police. Rosie attends Zac MacGuire's self-defence classes and befriends Bella Lugrano (Hayley Mitchell-Miller), who later tells her that she was raped by Mullens too. The next day, Bella meets up with Rosie and Sasha at the Diner and tells them that she reported her rape to the police. One of Mullens's friends, Lachlan Stone stalks Rosie and scares her.
Evie and Spencer's friendship became close as they spend a lot of time together at the Lodge. Spencer told Evie that he's best friends with her twin brother Oscar McGuire and Evie gave Spencer her letter to Oscar, which Spencer gave to him. Both Evie and Spencer were selected to go to the annual Discovery Weekend, which was their first time. Spencer joins a cult at the Sanctuary Lodge led by Murray Granger and Ethan McGuire, to find a way to cure his mental illness. Spencer met and befriended with Ethan's daughter, Evelyn McGuire, who showed him around and Spencer soon became close to the cult and to Evie. When Spencer's brother, Chris Harrington and girlfriend, Sasha Bezmel tries to take him home, Spencer refuses and prefers to stay with Evie.
Jade Montgomery is a teacher, who was on-screen for "over a couple of months", as her story led into the season finale for 2013. Joshua "Josh" Barrett played by Jackson Gallagher, made his first screen appearance on 27 August 2013. The character and Gallagher's casting was reported by Debbie Schipp from The Daily Telegraph on 3 August 2013. Gallagher admitted he was starstruck when he filmed a scene with long term cast member Ray Meagher , adding "That was when it hit home." Josh was introduced to the show along with his brother Andy . On 14 May 2016, Kerry Harvey of Stuff.co.nz reported that Gallagher would be leaving Home and Away. His character will depart following his confession about shooting Charlotte King .
Holly Chapman (Sacha Vivian-Riding) bullies Rosie about her pregnancy and her bond with Zac. Rosie decides to keep the baby and she later leaves the Bay to live in the city with her father. Sasha tries to get Rosie to touch a crab at the pier, but she becomes scared and falls into the sea. Rosie is invited to a toga party at Sasha's home and she is excited to meet Sasha's ex-boyfriend, Casey Braxton .
On the day Mitzy predicted Marilyn will die, Marilyn notices a baby in a pushchair rolling off the wharf and into the sea. She jumps into the sea to save the drowning baby and passes the pushchair to the baby's mother. Marilyn then becomes exhausted and struggles to stay afloat. She thanks him for his help and hugs him, telling him that she has wanted to hug him for a long time. Nicole then admits that she is attracted to him, but Sid tells her that nothing can happen between them.
He was initially contracted to appear in about sixteen episodes and he began shooting his first scenes in September. He comes to Summer Bay to visit Spencer and convince him to return home and sort things out with his family. The character and casting was announced on 13 January 2013. Shortly after she relocated to Sydney in May 2012, Haddy won the role of Rosie. She is six years older than her character, who is sixteen upon her entrance. Haddy called her character "sweet, but awkward" and noted that she is a bit of "a loner".
Home and Away: Spencer Harrington considers leaving Summer Bay
Ethan's late wife's sister Hannah visits the family and tries to get the twins to come live with her. Zac, along with Darryl , Heath and Kyle Braxton , manages to rescue the twins from the cult. When Spencer Harrington is beaten, Evelyn pleads with Ethan to help her get Spencer to a hospital and away from the cult. Murray is arrested for assaulting Spencer and Ethan takes over the cult.
Evelyn tells Spencer that she doesn't like Josh, but Spencer doesn't believe her after he witness him and Josh together at school. Evelyn reveals the truth that she likes Josh, but said that it's never going to happen. Spencer tells Maddy about Evelyn's crush, but tells her not to embarrass Evelyn. When Roo returned home from her trip to Las Vegas, Maddy found her unconscious at home and was taken to hospital. Spencer attends to his first Discovery Weekend with Evelyn and they both didn't know that the Discovery Weekend is a wedding ceremony and that he is to be wed to Evelyn. But Spencer stood up to Murray that he doesn't want this and that Murray slaps him and takes him away.
